R&J Strategic Communications Celebrates 40 Years of Making a Difference

 R&J Strategic Communications, a leading full-service integrated digital marketing and public relations agency specializing in commercial real estate, healthcare, human services and nonprofit communications, announces its 40th anniversary, marking four decades of making a difference for its clients, team and community.

Founded by John Lonsdorf, Bob Gagauf and Bob Wille on April 6, 1986 as Roberts & John Advertising and Public Relations, the agency began with a small office in Livingston, New Jersey and a focus on real estate marketing. In its early years, R&J built a strong foundation in commercial real estate and consumer products, while also establishing a healthcare practice that would become a core pillar of the business. 

After more than a decade of steady growth, client roster expansion and an office relocation to Parsippany, New Jersey, the turn of the millennium ushered in a new era for R&J. Scott Marioni joined the agency in 1999, a time when search engines, online publishing platforms and early digital media were being introduced and fundamentally changing how information was consumed. 

The next milestone year for R&J was 2005, when Lonsdorf and Marioni became partners and rebranded the agency as R&J Public Relations. Tiffany Miller joined the agency the following year and would play a key role in shaping its client service approach and growth trajectory, while the rise of social media platforms and mobile devices was redefining how and where audiences sought content. 

In 2012, R&J further bolstered its capabilities through the acquisition of Fifth Room Creative, a website design and development agency, further enhancing its ability to deliver integrated digital and creative solutions to complement its public relations expertise. 

As the communications landscape continued to evolve, R&J once again adapted alongside it. In 2015, the agency rebranded to its current iteration, R&J Strategic Communications, reflecting seamless integration of its public relations, digital marketing, creative and web development capabilities. This shift positioned the firm to deliver more comprehensive, data-driven strategies across owned, earned, shared and paid channels.

In 2018, Marioni was named president of R&J, drawing on his success guiding the firm’s strategic direction and continued growth. The following year, Tiffany Miller was promoted to executive vice president and named partner, further strengthening the agency’s leadership.

Reaching 40 years is a testament to both our team’s ability to refine our skills and expertise, and the trust our clients have placed in us at every stage. Whether through new technologies, changing media dynamics or shifting client needs, our ability to reinvent ourselves has always positioned us for success. That same approach continues to guide how we help our clients navigate what’s next.

In 2024, Lonsdorf stepped back from active involvement in the business, entrusting all day-to-day operations to Marioni and Miller and marking the beginning of a new chapter for the agency. Today, R&J calls Somerville, New Jersey, home, continuing to evolve amidst the emergence of AI and carry out its mission to make a difference.
